It was a double premiere: the first complete performance of the Ring of the Nibelung on Asian soil was also the first "Ring" in the NAXOS catalog. With international top stars such as Matthias Goerne in his debut as Wotan/The Wanderer, Stuart Skelton, Michelle de Young, Heidi Melton, Simon O'Neill, Kwangchul Youn, and David Cangelosi, this production was recognized from the outset as one of the major opera projects of the early 21st century. With the new chief conductor of the New York Philharmonic, Jaap van Zweden, one of the world's leading conductors was at the podium of the highly acclaimed Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. This was complemented by international top choirs such as the Chorus of the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Latvian State Chorus. For the first time, all the operas of the "Ring" are available in their entirety, for the first time in a practical, beautifully presented 14-CD box set. In addition, there is a USB card with numerous interviews with the artists, NAXOS Chairman Klaus Heymann, and sound engineer Phil Rowlands, exclusive concert and backstage photos, and the complete libretto. Not least this attractive bonus feature, which can be accessed on any computer, sets this exciting box set apart from other editions of Wagner's popular, groundbreaking opera tetralogy.
