Description

In the autumn of 1725, as France celebrated the marriage of Louis XV and Marie Leszczyńska, the French ambassador in Venice commissioned Vivaldi to compose a serenata in honor of the young royal couple. This occasion gave rise to a magnificent work, carried by two allegorical figures: Hymen, the god of marriage, and Glory, the radiant embodiment of French majesty. Alternatingly, the two raise their voices, answer one another, compete gracefully in virtuosity – and finally unite in a splendid concluding duet, which seals their tribute in perfect harmony. Logan Lopez Gonzalez and Nicolò Balducci give these roles expression with elegance and finesse and let Vivaldi's music shine. In the abundance of his oeuvre, this short but impressive work stands out through both diplomatic finesse and inspired brilliance – a truly brilliant musical gift to the French court.
