Vivaldi: 9 Cello Sonatas

The outstanding harpsichordist Isolde Ahlgrimm was a major pioneer of historically informed performance practice. As early as the late 1930s, she gave concerts on period instruments together with her husband Erich Fiala in their hometown of Vienna. In the 1950s, she was the first harpsichordist to record Johann Sebastian Bach's complete harpsichord works on gramophone records. Later, Isolde Ahlgrimm became a professor of harpsichord at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the University of Vienna and shaped an entire generation of harpsichord soloists. For the audiophile label Tudor, she recorded one of the first (and to this day still relatively few) complete editions of Antonio Vivaldi's cello sonatas together with cellist Mischa Frey in 1975. The recording has since become a reference recording and is still appreciated by Vivaldi fans around the world.
