Verdi: Macbeth (Gran Teatre del Liceu, 2016, Directed by: Loy)

In this production of Giuseppe Verdi's "Macbeth", director Christof Loy masterfully navigates the interplay of light and darkness, lending the opera – based on Shakespeare's work – remarkable depth and drama. The outstanding singing ensemble vividly captures the psychological nuances of the characters, with Ludovic Tézier as the paranoid Macbeth and Martina Serafin as Lady Macbeth, the mastermind behind the crimes. Conductor Giampaolo Bisanti pours his passion into the score, and the symphony orchestra and chorus of the Liceu deliver exceptional performances. The audience experiences a flawless fusion of text and music, created by the Milanese composer, librettist Francesco Maria Piave and the poet Andrea Maffei.
