Description

In 1725 José de Torres composed the musical setting for the royal funeral of Spain's first Bourbon monarch. This "Misa de difuntos para Luis I" is at the heart of this album, which brings together the richness of Spanish tradition and the elegance of French taste. With exquisite finesse, it combines the sound world of Versailles with the lavish splendor of the Spanish Baroque. The Mass is complemented by the monumental "Dies Irae" composed in honor of Philip V, by the Franco-Italian composer Francisco Corselli. Alberto Miguélez Rouco brings these rare works to new life and allows the music of the Real Capilla de Madrid to resound once again in the Royal Chapel of Versailles.
