Description

While many guitar music albums focus on the instrument's Spanish and Latin American roots, Eleftheria Kotzia turns her gaze to the musical peripheries of Europe. "The European Guitar" brings together works from Albania, Estonia, France, Greece, Serbia, and the British Isles, painting a multifaceted musical portrait of the continent.

The selected compositions revolve around themes such as identity, memory, loss, reconciliation, and the human relationship with the environment. The result is a program of great lyrical power and quiet intensity, inviting reflection and contemplation.

For the Greek guitarist Eleftheria Kotzia, who has been one of the leading figures in the international guitar scene for many years, this repertoire fits seamlessly into her artistic journey. As a performer and promoter of numerous contemporary works, she has devoted decades to the musical dialogue between different European traditions. With works by Barbara, Ángel Cabral, Dušan Bogdanović, Dinos Constantinides, René Eespere, Kostas Grigoreas, Eddie McGuire, Peter Maxwell Davies, and Charles Trenet, she creates a soundscape of Europe that is as personal as it is borderless and genre-defying.
