Taubert: Piano Sonatas Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6

Wilhelm Taubert was a significant composer and teacher in Berlin as the city began to rival Vienna and Paris as a European center of music. Although the piano had also reached its peak in size and tonal fullness at this time, Taubert’s graceful, conservative style suited the instrument perfectly. His sonatas combine elements of Beethoven with those of Carl Maria von Weber and are distinguished by slow movements that evoke the rich operatic lyricism of Gioachino Rossini or Luigi Cherubini. Canadian pianist Dr. Lucas Wong is active as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, and vocal coach, and has already recorded works by Claude Debussy, Emmanuel Chabrier, François Couperin, and Jean-Philippe Rameau.
