Stravinsky: Orchestral Works

This album features performances of rarely recorded orchestral works by Igor Stravinsky. They demonstrate the versatility of the Russian composer, who was never an adherent of a particular aesthetic of expression. On the contrary, he viewed composing as an intellectual game, as an attempt to solve musical problems of his own invention. His constructivism could be inspired by Italian Baroque music, but just as well by the polyphonic structures of the Renaissance, by jazz, or by the serial tone complexes of Anton Webern.

Whether as an opera conductor, orchestral director, festival director, or author: Ingo Metzmacher is consistently committed to music, especially that of the 20th and 21st centuries. He is a frequent guest conductor with major orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra, the Gewandhausorchester, the Vienna Symphony, and Ensemble Modern, as well as at opera houses and festivals such as the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Salzburg Festival, and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.
