Stravinsky in Hollywood (A Film by Marco Capaldo)

1260 North Wetherly Drive, in a rather inconspicuous bungalow at this address, composer Igor Stravinsky lived with his second wife Vera from 1941 until shortly before his death in 1971. What brought Stravinsky to the West Coast of the USA and how did he fare there? “Stravinsky in Hollywood” by Marco Capalbo combines partly never-before-seen archival material, including interviews with Stravinsky, his assistant Robert Craft and scenes from 1940s films, which are brought together for the first time with Stravinsky’s music composed for them. The documentary also tells of Stravinsky’s short film music career; it is the tragic story of his attempts and difficulties in finding a suitable working mode with the Hollywood studios, the story of a European “Old-School Artist” who struggles with the “New World”.
