Strauss: Don Quixote / Ibert: Le Chevalier errant

The Orchestre National de Lyon and its new musical director Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider have begun a collaboration with Channel Classics, combining major works from the repertoire with lesser-known pieces. Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, who first made a name for himself as an outstanding violinist, has long since also been successful as a conductor and has already led some of the world's most renowned orchestras. On this album, violist Amihai Grosz and cellist Jian Wang take on the musical roles of Sancho Panza and Don Quixote in Strauss's virtuoso tone poem "Don Quixote". The symphonic suite from Jacques Ibert's "Le chevalier errant" also depicts moments from Cervantes' "Don Quixote", interspersed with scenes from the knight's adventures, including the famous battle in "Don Quixote", the "Dance of the Galley Slaves", and several other dances, including a flamenco.
