Southern: Wenn ich mich verliebe

2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of singer Jeri Southern. This collection brings together 52 recordings from her artistic peak between 1949 and 1959, painting a portrait of one of the most distinctive voices in American vocal jazz. Born Genevieve Hering in Nebraska, the artist rose to fame in the 1950s under the name Jeri Southern. With her velvety, smoky voice and understated piano playing, she developed an unmistakable style that bridged jazz ballads, cool jazz, the American songbook, popular music, and emotionally intense love ballads: melancholic songs about longing, loss, and unrequited love.

The focus of this edition is on intimate interpretations of classics such as "When I Fall In Love," "Ev’rytime We Say Goodbye," "The Very Thought Of You," and "I Thought About You Last Night." Furthermore, Jeri Southern collaborated with renowned arrangers such as Ralph Burns, Marty Paich, and Billy May, whose orchestral signatures significantly helped shape these recordings.
