Composers: Dohnányi, Ernő · Moór, Emánuel · Strauss, Richard
Artists: Stromberg, David · Uhlig, Florian
With the project “The Duplex Coupler Grand Piano,” pianist Florian Uhlig and cellist David Stromberg breathe new life into a forgotten idea. The composer Emánuel Moór, whose works combine magnificent melodies with surprisingly harmonious turns, was also known in his lifetime as a brilliant tinkerer. He developed the “Duplex Coupler piano” with a double keyboard. The coupled, octave tones lend the works special tonal nuances. Stromberg and Uhlig searched for a suitable Duplex Coupler Grand Piano for a long time and had it extensively restored. A work by the inventor Moór was not to be missed on this recording. Ernst von Dohnányi once conducted a concert with this instrument, and it is for this reason, among others, that one of his works is also represented. Stromberg felt that Richard Strauss’s early work perfectly suited the power of this grand piano, so his sonata completes this album with this unique instrument.
