Description

Linn presents the complete collection of Charles Mackerras' Mozart recordings with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Featuring nine symphonies and the Requiem, this box set shows why Mackerras was celebrated as one of the greatest Mozart interpreters and why the SCO is internationally recognized as one of the finest chamber orchestras. Mackerras' recording of Mozart's four late symphonies (Nos. 38–41) has received multiple awards: the 2009 Classical BRITs Critics' Award and the 2009 BBC Music Magazine Disc of the Year and Orchestral Awards. His recordings of Symphonies Nos. 29, 31 ("Paris Symphonies"), 32, 35 ("Haffner"), and 36 ("Linz") were named SYMPHONY RECORDINGS OF THE YEAR at the 2011 ECHO Klassik Awards. The symphonies are complemented by Mackerras' interpretation of the Requiem, featuring distinguished soloists such as soprano Susan Gritton and mezzo-soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers. BBC Music Magazine described this recording as a reference recording.
