The world-renowned trombonist Peter Moore was born in Belfast and grew up in the Greater Manchester area. He gained international attention at the age of twelve when he became the youngest winner of the BBC Young Musician competition in 2008. His early involvement in the brass band culture of Northern England was crucial to his rapid development. At the young age of 18, he was appointed principal trombonist of the London Symphony Orchestra, but left it after ten years to focus on his solo career. He has performed with leading orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and has given recitals at venues such as the Koninklijk Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Wiener Musikverein. This album celebrates Peter Moore's lifelong connection with the brass band movement with a diverse program that includes major works such as Gordon Langford's "Rhapsody" (written for Don Lusher) and the world premiere recording of Simon Dobson's "Shift" – a trombone concerto written for him. Moore also pays tribute to other great trombonists: Arthur Prior was a soloist with the Souza Band, while "I'm Gettin' Sentimental Over You" was a major hit for Tommy Dorsey.
