Description

The "Historia der Auferstehung Jesu Christi" is one of Heinrich Schütz's most famous works and was first performed in 1623 during vespers on Easter Monday in the Dresden Castle Chapel. Although the original title speaks of the "joyful and victorious resurrection," the work is fundamentally a quiet, focused composition with a refined dramaturgy in which the Easter jubilation only gradually breaks through. Schütz's work impressively captures the ineffable and mysterious nature of the concept of the resurrection in music. Ensemble Polyharmonique is a renowned collective of vocal soloists that specializes in the vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. With a larger ensemble and accompanied by an excellent instrumental group, they present a lively and stirring interpretation of the Resurrection History in this recording.
