Franz Schreker's career was abruptly cut short by the events of 1933, but before that he achieved fame with his operas. The great success of his "Der Schatzgräber" in the 1920s was the pinnacle of his career. In a complex and ultimately tragic story about destructive greed, desire and toxic social hierarchy, the opera tells of Els, the daughter of the innkeeper, who has to face the consequences of her murder plans. Conductor Marc Albrecht praises this "work of outstanding quality, concentration and importance". Director Christof Loy staged this highly positively received production at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
