Description

Dmitri Shostakovich is primarily famous for his symphonies and string quartets: compositions in which humor can also be found, but much more brooding, dark, and bleakness. But there is also Shostakovich's cheeky, lighthearted side, and it comes to light nowhere better than in the works united here, be they the two jazz suites, the "Tahiti Trot," or the ballet suites. This more extensive collection of the 'other' Shostakovich is rounded off by two concertos: In the 1st Piano Concerto, one can recognize the twinkle in the eye, among other things, in the many quotations (songs, his own works, Beethoven); in the 1st Violin Concerto, which was withheld for years out of fear of reprisals, however, rather somber sounds prevail.
