Schnittke: Film Music, Vol. 6

Film music, an important pillar of his livelihood, embodies almost everything that characterizes Alfred Schnittke's music as a whole. As a self-described polystylist, he began working as a film composer for Soviet film production companies in 1960 and thus created a total of 66 film scores from 1962 to 1984. His principle of adopting and utilizing worn-out remnants of music history did not go down well in the strongholds of the avant-garde, all the more so with filmgoers and concertgoers. The sixth edition of the Schnittke Film Music Edition presented here includes for the first time the complete music to the 1979 multi-part "Little Tragedies" based on Alexander Pushkin. The conductor Vladimir Jurowski presents here - after extensive research - also those parts of the score that fell victim to the final film cut.
