Composers: Scarlatti, Domenico
Artists: Di Girolamo, Andreina · Rambaldi, Silvia
For many decades, students of Domenico Scarlatti have discussed the relationship between most of Scarlatti's sonatas and flamenco dance. Silvia Rambaldi and Andreina Di Girolamo deserve praise for presenting, with the help of dancer Rita Marchesini, who is proficient in both Baroque and flamenco dance, a practical demonstration that goes beyond words and unites dance and harpsichord playing. And since certain sonatas very often alternate between the Andalusian and Italian styles, the dancer shows with her performance that it is possible to 'play' appropriately with both styles. This interesting production of Domenico Scarlatti's 'coded' harpsichord sonatas is accompanied by a DVD-ROM containing the video of the sonatas for two harpsichords, which was filmed at the performance "La festa dorata dell'anima", in which Rita Marchesini (historical dance and flamenco) and Alberto Rodriguez (Andalusian guitarist) together with harpsichordists Andreina di Girolamo and Silvia Rambaldi demonstrate 'on site' the influence of Italian and Spanish dance on the works of the great composer. The commentary in the interview with the late Emilia Fadini is also of great interest.
