Scarlatti: Complete Keyboard Sonatas

No one redefined the boundaries of contemporary piano composition in the 18th century as radically as Domenico Scarlatti, whose formal innovation, harmonic boldness, and virtuosic brilliance set him apart from his contemporaries. In this selection of sonatas, Martin Cousin presents a multifaceted portrait of Scarlatti's creative spectrum. Alongside scale passages, extended trills, dramatic dynamics, and playful syncopations, we also encounter the mischievous, almost improvisational, and introspective composer, who was capable of great nobility and lyrical beauty and built a bridge between Baroque traditions and the new classical style. Pianist Martin Cousin has been regarded as one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation since winning first prize at the International Ettore Pozzoli Piano Competition in 2005. His albums have repeatedly received the highest praise from music magazines, including two albums of piano works by Artur Rubinstein and one of Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Études-tableaux".
