Alessandro Scarlatti's "Il trionfo dell’onore" (The Triumph of Honor) – his only comic opera – premiered in Naples in 1718. With its characteristic recitatives and expressive arias and a plot involving four pairs of lovers, it can be considered one of the precursors of opera buffa. The main character is the irredeemable seducer Riccardo Albenori, a Don Giovanni-like figure, albeit without the evil aura. In this opera, Scarlatti impresses not only with insightful psychology, but also with a rich variety of arias, duets, and quartets, which define the pathos, humor, and eroticism of the work. The press praised Stefano Vizioli's direction and Ugo Nespolo's colorful sets and costumes. Conductor Enrico Onofri was praised for giving the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice a vitality that harmonized with the lively vocal numbers.
