Savaşkan: Eleven Conditions of Responsibility

"Eleven Conditions of Responsibility" is the first recording of the concert of the same name for chamber orchestra and electronics by Sinan C. Savaşkan. The work was created for the Octandre Ensemble and premiered in London in May 2025. Savaşkan was the first composer-in-residence for the ensemble, which has been dedicated primarily to music written after 1945 since its founding in 2011.

"Eleven Conditions of Responsibility" is part of Savaşkan's large-scale cycle "Many Stares through Semi-Nocturnal Zeiss-Blink," which is planned to comprise a total of 360 pieces. The concert is based on eleven thematic segments that Savaşkan calls "little icons" for reflection. These are connected into three larger musical arcs through his "Circular Functions" compositional method, which he has been developing for decades. The starting point for the eleven themes was derived from reflections on time, space, and responsibility, inspired by reading Henri Bergson and Émile Durkheim during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is performed by the Octandre Ensemble, conducted by Jonathan Hargreaves. The recording is a world premiere.
