Satie: The White Road

As one of the most significant figures in French music of the early 20th century, Erik Satie continues to inspire many artists today and fascinates with his nonconformity. "Satie shows us an empty road (the very 'Route blanche' of the album title) on which everyone can leave their own traces. [...] He likes to live where life pulsates, has a knack for good inns, and enjoys the climate." With these two sentences, Jean Cocteau aptly describes the atmosphere of this album. "Airs à faire fuir," "Danses de travers," "Préludes flasques," "Profondeur," "Effronterie," and "Désespoir agréable" stand entirely in the tradition of this "Route blanche." "Allons-y Chochotte," "Je te veux," "La Diva de l'Empire" by pianist Claire Chevallier with guest soprano Claron McFadden, and "Gambades" allow us to enjoy the pulsating life of the Montmartre cabarets to the fullest. As an unexpected addition to this album, the booklet contains an unpublished text by the exceptional author Caroline Lamarche, which is dedicated to Monsieur Satie.
