Rossini: Tancredi (Bregenz Festival, August 2024, Directed by: Gloger)

With an outstanding cast and Jan Philipp Gloger's innovative production, "Tancredi" at the Bregenzer Festspiele becomes a fresh reinterpretation of Rossini's opera, set in the world of organized crime and reimagining the traditionally heterosexual love story as a queer romance: only a small step, as Tancredi has also been sung by a woman, but she normally embodies a man. This bold reinterpretation is brought to life by Anna Goryachova and Mélissa Petit, whose performances capture the emotional depth and tragedy of their love. Petit's coloratura-secure soprano was particularly praised by the press. But the soulful Anna Goryachova in the title role, tenor Antonino Siragusa and bass-baritone Andreas Wolf were also well received by critics and audiences alike. Conductor Yi-Chen Lin and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra provide the music, occasionally allowing some wind instruments to take center stage in their solos.
