Wayne McGregor is one of the leading British ballet choreographers of the younger generation and was most recently honored in Germany in April 2018, when the Bavarian State Ballet staged a portrait of three of his choreographies to open the Ballet Festival. Woolf Works is McGregor's first full-length ballet for the London Royal Ballet, one of the best ballet companies in the world. The piece is based on three different well-known novels and short stories by the British writer Virginia Woolf, who, as one of the most important representatives of the literary avant-garde, intertwined different narrative and temporal levels in her stories. McGregor used this as the basis for his ballet concept, creating a multi-layered, complex choreography that re-examines the relationship between humans and inanimate matter. Alessandra Ferri, one of the most important ballet dancers of our time and former prima ballerina of Milan's La Scala, is the star of the cast. The music is largely drawn from the successful oeuvre of the British composer Max Richter.
