Rhapsody

Five famous rhapsodies are featured on the latest CD from BR Klassik, composed by different composers from various regions with great imagination and local color. With his Rhapsody España, Chabrier turned to the Iberian music and folk music that was so popular at the time, just as his more famous compatriot Ravel did in his Rhapsody espagnole. From the Hungarian-born Liszt comes the famous Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, and from the Romanian Enescu the no less well-known and popular Romanian Rhapsody No. 1. The American George Gershwin finally created the most famous example of the genre in the 20th century with his Rhapsody in Blue for piano and orchestra. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of its chief conductor Mariss Jansons stands as a guarantee for excellent interpretive quality of the great rhapsodic musical works; the Russian pianist Denis Matusev – world-famous since his victory at the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow in 1998 – proves himself to be a confident and stylistically secure interpreter.
