Description

MINIMAL is the Percussions de Strasbourg's first foray into the world of minimalist music. True to its legendary history, yet open to other sonic horizons, the ensemble asserts its plural identity, nourished by a sensitive dialogue between heritage, aesthetic diversity, and creative freedom. This recording, centered on Steve Reich's famous Mallet Quartet, brings together works such as Camille Pépin's "Avant, pendant, et pourtant", in which formal rigor and emotion intertwine, and Shelley Washington's "Sunday", imbued with a gentle melancholy. Nik Bärtsch contributes his rhythmic textures and "ritual groove". The program for the album MINIMAL was conceived by Minh-Tâm Nguyen and shaped by the inspired ear of Vincent Peirani. It reflects an openness to jazz, pop, and classical influences and marks a turning point: An album conceived in anticipation of the performance and intended as a living manifesto of contemporary creation.
