Description
To mark the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel's birth, pianist Élisabeth Pion, harpist Valérie Milot, the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Alain Trudel have joined forces to create an album exploring the subtle connections between piano and orchestra in the French composer's work. Titled "Ravel – Le Tombeau de Couperin and Concertante Works," this recording offers a sophisticated and vibrant interpretation of several significant works from Ravel's repertoire. Conceived by Alain Trudel as a tribute to Ravel’s characteristic modesty and elegance, the program highlights an orchestral approach inspired by the composer's chamber music and piano compositions. The album notably includes "Le Tombeau de Couperin" in its complete orchestral version, including Kenneth Hesketh’s orchestrations for the Fugue and Toccata, the famous "Pavane pour une infante défunte," the "Introduction et Allegro for harp and orchestra," as well as the extravagant "Concerto in G Major." Élisabeth Pion, winner of the 2025 Honens Prize, distinguishes herself with a style that combines sensitivity and intensity. Valérie Milot, a leading figure in the Canadian harp world, contributes the full richness of her sound and artistic vision. Under Alain Trudel’s baton, the OSTR unfolds a colorful orchestral palette, bringing to life both the intimacy and the playful, modern spirit of Ravel.
