Rachmaninoff: Scherzo / Youth Symphony / Piano Concerto No. 1

In 2024, Riccardo Chailly and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra continued their acclaimed Sergei Rachmaninoff cycle with a concert that encompassed the composer’s entire creative output: from the youthful freshness of his earliest works, such as the rarely performed First Symphony and his Piano Concerto No. 1, to the musical mastery and maturity of his final major work, the "Symphonic Dances." The young piano virtuoso Alexander Malofeev, in whose repertoire Rachmaninoff’s music holds a special place, made his much-heralded debut at the Lucerne Festival as the evening’s soloist with a stirring performance alongside the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo Chailly. The concert was recorded live in August 2024 at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall.
