Puccini: Turandot (Teatro Real, 2018, Directed by: Wilson)

Giacomo Puccini's last opera was programmed by the Teatro Real in Madrid. In a sensational production, Robert Wilson brought this work to life with his – as always – magnificent visual and color language. He guides the performers with confident stage direction through this dramatic story of the triumph of true love. In the title role as the cool, aloof, but ultimately passionate Princess Turandot, Irene Theorin shines with a magnificent vocal presence. Beside her, Gregory Kunde is brilliantly cast as Calaf. Furthermore, the singing ensemble, which is excellent even in the supporting roles, deserves praise, as do the chorus and the orchestra of the Teatro Real under the experienced baton of Nicola Luisotti.
