Puccini: Tosca (Teatro alla Scala, Milan, 2023, Directed by: Livermore)

In 2018, Anna Netrebko created Floria Tosca for the first time at the Met in New York. She suited the role so well that in 2019 she returned to the stage of Milan’s famous La Scala for Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Tosca.” Joining her is Francesco Meli, “probably unsurpassed in this role at the moment: lyrically supple, and then impressively expressive again” (BR Klassik). Luca Salsi plays the villain Scarpia. Director Davide Livermore created a stage setting that is constantly in motion while creating new, opulent spaces. What is particularly noteworthy is that music director Riccardo Chailly chose a version of the opera that closely resembles the premiere version from 1900, whereas revised versions are more commonly performed today.
