Description

Kenneth MacMillan (1929–1992) is considered one of the most important figures in 20th-century British ballet. He delivered his masterpiece as a choreographer with his very first production: in 1965, he brought Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" to the stage. Almost 55 years later, filmmakers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt have adapted the piece "beyond words" (i.e., without dialogue) as a feature film against a historic backdrop and with magnificent Renaissance costumes. Francesca Hayward and William Bracewell shine in the title roles, the ensemble of the Royal Ballet is complemented by the excellent ballet company Balletboyz: This is the story everyone knows, told in a language everyone understands, presented like never before.
