Description

In 1735, Nicola Porpora presented his opera "Polifemo" in London to rival Georg Friedrich Händel – a work that still resonates today as a vibrant ode to triumphant love. Along the enchanting coasts of Sicily, the nymph Galatea falls in love with the mortal Acis. This pure passion ignites the wild jealousy of the cyclops Polifemo, whose wrath threatens to destroy everything. But the unexpected arrival of Odysseus and the intrigues of Calypso spin a complex web in which gods and mortals collide. Carried by a constellation of exceptional soloists and under the direction of Stefan Plewniak, this opera masterfully combines the legacy of the Baroque Golden Age with the timeless power of myth. Two world stars lead the cast in this recording: Julia Lezhneva and Franco Fagioli.
