Philipp & Xaver Scharwenka: Chamber Music Works for Violin and Piano

After having been more or less forgotten for a long time, the compositions of Philipp and Xaver Scharwenka are now occasionally heard again and are partly available in recordings. Given the very similar artistic influences and the personal bond between the brothers, it is therefore surprising that no discographical attempt has yet been made to contrast their compositional output. With the present selection of works, violinist Yoerae Kim and pianist Matteo Weber demonstrate their flair for a dramatically cohesive program that also alludes to fascinating biographical connections. It combines one violin sonata by each of the two brothers with a serenade and a suite. In doing so, it spans a period of composition of about 35 years.
