Penderecki: All String Quartets and Other Works

Krzysztof Penderecki's compositions for (string) quartet span the entire six-decade creative period of the most important Polish composer of the modern era. They thus offer a wonderful insight into Penderecki's compositional evolution, from the young avant-gardist terrorizing the educated bourgeoisie to the neo-romantic suitable for the living room. From the avant-garde First String Quartet to the clarinet quartet imbued with the spirit of Schubert. Even the early neo-Baroque music for the highly sensual film "The Hand of Saragossa" can be found in this recording.
