Pärt: Te Deum

The present CD production highlights four works by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who celebrates his 80th birthday in September. Dating from 1984, 1990, and 1997, they feature music committed to the so-called "tintinnabuli style" (Latin: "little bells") created by Pärt himself. In the Te Deum, Pärt deliberately breaks with the tradition of festive, sonorous works established by Charpentier, Bruckner, and Verdi. CDs by BR-Klassik and the Bavarian Radio Chorus under the direction of Peter Dijkstra are regularly awarded prestigious prizes, such as the Diapason d’or for the album Strauss - Wagner - Mahler and the ECHO Klassik for Schnittke’s Mass for Chorus. The current album of sacred music by Arvo Pärt presents the Bavarian Radio Chorus in cooperation with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Both ensembles perform together regularly in their concert series and frequently perform sacred music from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.
