Pablo Sorozábal Choral Works I

This album presents a wonderful selection of choral works by the important Spanish composer Pablo Sorozábal for mixed choir, women's choir, and choir with piano, and serves as an excellent example of the significance of the rich Basque culture. Pablo Sorozábal (1897-1988), who was born in Donostia and passed away in Madrid, was highly successful in the opera scene but remained deeply connected to choral music throughout his entire career. In fact, it was the vibrant choral movement of his native Basque Country that shaped his artistic personality. It is therefore not surprising that he dedicated some of his most intimate pages to these choirs, connecting them with his family heritage. For his father, a stonemason by trade, was also a talented 'bertsolari' who performed his songs in the taverns of San Sebastián.
