The production features Mussorgsky's revised 1872 version. Tomasz Konieczny takes on the title role; singing alongside him are, among others, Raehann Bryce-Davis as Marina Mnishek, Dumitru Mîțu as Grigoriy, and Vitalij Kowaljow as Pimen. Vasily Petrenko conducts the Dutch National Opera chorus and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra – marking his debut with this orchestra.
