The sea has repeatedly inspired composers and performers. This CD contains music about the sea, sometimes programmatic, sometimes not at all, from the time of Bedřich Smetana to the 21st century. The soloist Janice Weber can look back on a long recording career for numerous renowned labels (including Naxos American Classics) and is considered a specialist in the music of Leo Ornstein and Olivier Messiaen. She is also a novelist, and perhaps that is why her piano style appears so intimate and "narrative".
