Munch Suite - 15 Solo Pieces Based on 15 Paintings by Edvard Munch

"It is well known that music and images complement and influence each other. Music gives images a stronger, and sometimes even a new meaning, because the human ear directs the brain into a line of thought shaped by the music. Conversely, music can acquire a completely new meaning through images. (...) This is exactly how I feel about this CD. Henning Kraggerud commissioned 15 composers to write a short piece for solo violin based on a painting by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. This resulted in a unique musical project for the expressionist's 150th birthday. The CD box contains the illustrated images in 11 x 15 cm format. The listener can therefore first look at the images and form their own thoughts about them. Then they can verify whether their impressions match those of the musicians. In my case, there were several surprises, while in other cases my feelings matched those of the composer. But with all the images, I was impressed by the highly expressive music and the passionately played performances by the Norwegian soloist." (Remy Franck, Pizzicato)
