Mozart / Vorisek: Symphony No. 38 in D Major / Symphony Op. 23

With these concerts, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig embarks on a musical journey to the Czech Republic in memory of its former Kapellmeister Václav Neumann. Jan Václav Voříšek was born there in 1791; his Symphony in D major was initially neither published nor performed and has since become his most-played work. In 1787, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart traveled to the Czech capital, and due to the enormous success he experienced there, he was later able to describe this stay as one of the most beautiful moments of his life. His Symphony in D major, K. 504, the so-called "Prague," remains one of his most popular compositions to this day.
