Mozart: Piano Trios Vol. 1

With this album, the Susato Trio begins its complete recording of the six piano trios by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Although they were penned by one of the most famous composers of all time, these works are heard relatively rarely in the concert hall. This first installment combines the Divertimento in B-flat major, K. 254, with the Piano Trios in G major, K. 496, and C major, K. 548, thus tracing the evolution of Mozart’s engagement with the genre over a period of twelve years.

While the early K. 254 still stands in the tradition of the accompanied piano sonata, an increasingly egalitarian dialogue between the instruments develops in the later works. With this recording, the Susato Trio, featuring Sarah Bayens (violin), Mikko Pablo (cello), and Markiyan Popil (piano), also presents its debut album.
