Mozart: Clarinet Concertos

It is an album to kneel before: the great clarinet virtuoso and composer Jörg Widmann is undoubtedly one of the leading masters in his field. With Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, Widmann has recorded this masterpiece and probably the best-known of all clarinet concertos for the first time. Joining it on the album are Carl Maria von Weber's wonderful first Clarinet Concerto as well as Widmann's own composition "Three Shadow Dances" for solo clarinet. Jörg Widmann has also achieved a coup in terms of content with this album, because Mozart's marriage to Constanze Weber (the composer Carl Maria von Weber's cousin) provides a common thread that runs through the program. With the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin under the direction of Peter Ruzicka, the orchestral side of this production is also superbly cast. In short: This album is unquestionably one of the first real highlights of the still young classical year 2016.
