The Abduction from the Seraglio is one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's most famous operas and is one of his two major operas set to a German text. It was first performed in Paris in 1798 – translated into French by Pierre-Louis Moline, a French dramatist and librettist of the time. In a palace on the edge of the Ottoman Empire lives Constance, a noble prisoner, under the watchful care of the powerful Pasha Selim, who longs for her heart. But Belmonte, her faithful lover, braves seas and dangers to find her. With the help of Pédrille, he undertakes a daring escape, always under the suspicious eyes of Osmin, the brutal yet comical guard. Nighttime intrigues, outlandish disguises, and eternal oaths create an exuberant comedy in which feelings are put to the test. The Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal under the direction of Gaétan Jarry brings to life one of Mozart's most spirited works with a mixture of liveliness and eloquence - in the French language!
