Mozart: Don Giovanni

Iván Fischer and Channel Classics present a recording of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. The live recording was made in October 2025 at the spectacular Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza and is the first part of a Mozart trilogy, to be followed in the coming years by "The Magic Flute" and "The Marriage of Figaro". With a dream pair (André Schuen as Don Giovanni and Luca Pisaroni as Leporello) and a first-class cast, Iván Fischer presents his vision of Mozart's masterpiece: "Simply put, the first two bars of this opera describe the story: the struggle between order and rebellion. The basses repeat their constant tonic three times and finally overwhelm the revolutionary syncopations of the violins. The energetic, defiant violin tones stand for Don Giovanni, the man who accepts no rules, who knows no limits. He follows his own instincts, uses and abuses his power, his wealth, his servant, to follow only one goal: his passion. On this journey he kills, he injures, he harms others, without remorse or even a moment of hesitation. He is completely unattached, happy, free from inner doubts and outer control and from all rules of what we call morality."
