Mendelssohn: Organ Sonatas

Following a successful concert series featuring Felix Mendelssohn’s complete organ works at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 2021, Samuel Bristow celebrates the 30th anniversary of the installation of the Mander organs at Chelmsford Cathedral with a recording of Mendelssohn’s groundbreaking work, the "Organ Sonatas, Op. 65." The sonatas encompass such a wide range of moods and tonal colors that an equally broad spectrum of sounds can be explored on the two contrasting yet complementary instruments. This album serves as a testament to the realization of a unique musical vision, with Mendelssohn’s music proving the perfect vehicle to celebrate their strengths. Samuel Bristow has been the Assistant Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral since 2023, following various posts at the cathedrals of Coventry, Birmingham, and Salisbury. He has participated in the world premieres of works by composers such as Francis Jackson and Owain Park.
