Melodien in einer Flasche

The meeting of percussionist and marimba player Vassilena Serafimova with the Quatuor Ardeo is an encounter between two worlds, giving rise to new repertoire as well as new moods and impressions – partly created anew through original arrangements. This creates a fine balance between the marimba and vibraphone on one side and the strings on the other: the former, pulsating and with a silky timbre, provide a more pronounced rhythmic dimension and occasionally take on a concertante role; the latter offer a warm lyricism and a texture that is sometimes dense, sometimes transparent, yet always supple. A delicate balance is also required in respecting the works themselves without diminishing their original artistic power. Over the course of the works and arrangements, the journey takes shape like a travel diary, in which ancient traditions meet fresh inspiration. Melodies in a Bottle is intended less as a program than as a passage: of maritime or urban perspectives, of real or imaginary landscapes, of music whose history is rewritten with every note. A space of encounter where curiosity becomes an attractive driving force.
