Mainz Studio Recordings 1963 - 1969

Worlds lie between the debut recordings from 1963, which Südwestfunk (SWF) captured of the 19-year-old Volker Kriegel in a trio at the Mainzer Deutschhaus, and the studio sessions from 1967 at the Kammersaal studio. For one thing, the guitar had made a career for itself in jazz (and in rock music as well), and for another, Kriegel himself had gained self-confidence. In 1968, he found an equal counterpart in Claudio Szenkar, who challenged him both communicatively and compositionally. The final sessions of this album, from 1969, already show Kriegel as a confident bandleader and composer.
