This is the background against which the composer Kim André Arnesen describes the emotions of the Virgin Mary: astonishment, devotion, gratitude, joy, humility, hope, and compassion. God has chosen an unknown woman living in poverty as the mother of his son; with his “Magnificat,” Arnesen has written a work intended to bring hope and comfort to all people in physical and emotional distress.
