Lasso: Responsories for Passiontide

Orlande de Lassus, perhaps better known in Germany by the name Orlando di Lasso, is undoubtedly one of the most important composers of the Renaissance. His sacred music is among the most significant of the 16th century. In the ongoing series of rare and previously unrecorded vocal compositions by the Renaissance master for Toccata Classics, the outstanding Wülfrath choir Ars Cantica can be heard on the current album, which was recently awarded the title of "Master Choir" by the German Choral Association. Lasso composed the four-part settings of the responsories for Holy Week around 1580. This is the world premiere recording of the works from the critical score edition.
